Seven Hermetic Principles

The Universe Is Always Moving: Understanding the Principle of Vibration

← Back to Pathnotes

What if I told you that the chair you're sitting on isn't solid?

That your body, the air around you, even your thoughts... all of it is moving, humming, and vibrating at speeds you can't perceive! And what if the key to changing your life wasn't about doing more, but about resonating differently??

Nothing Is Still

The Hermetic Principle of Vibration declares: Nothing Rests; Everything Moves; Everything Vibrates.

At first, this sounds abstract. Poetic, maybe. But modern physics has caught up with what Hermetic wisdom knew thousands of years ago: matter is energy. Atoms are mostly empty space, held together by forces in constant motion. The "solid" world is an illusion of slow vibration.

Your desk vibrates. Your coffee cup vibrates. Your bones, your blood, your breath—all vibrating. At the quantum level, particles aren't even particles—they're waves of probability, oscillating in and out of existence.

The ancient Hermeticists didn't have electron microscopes, but they understood something essential: reality is frequency.

And here's the part that changes everything: You are a frequency too.

The Emotional Spectrum

Most people think vibration is just a physical phenomenon. But Hermeticism takes it further: consciousness vibrates.

Think about it. When you're angry, your whole body tenses. Your heart races. Your breath quickens. You vibrate at a particular frequency...tight, hot, sharp. When you're joyful, you feel expansive, light, open. Different frequency. Same being. Different vibration.

The Emotional Octave

Just as light moves from infrared to ultraviolet, emotions move along a spectrum of frequencies. Fear vibrates low and dense. Love vibrates high and expansive. You are always somewhere on this spectrum...and where you are determines what you attract, perceive, and create.

This isn't metaphor. It's energetic law. Your emotions are not just feelings, they are states of vibration that radiate outward, shaping what you encounter and who you become.

Have you ever walked into a room and immediately felt tension, even though no one said a word? You sensed the vibration. Or met someone new and felt instantly at ease? Resonance. Your frequencies matched.

You are a tuning fork. And the universe responds to your pitch.

Changing Frequency, Changing Reality

Here's where it gets practical.

If everything is vibration, then changing your experience of life isn't about changing external circumstances—it's about shifting your frequency.

You already know this on some level. You've heard people say "raise your vibration" or "good vibes only." But what does that actually mean? This is the part I hear everyone complain about, nobody ever tries to explain it. So, here you go...

It means this: the world you perceive is determined by the frequency you inhabit.

When you're vibrating in fear, you see threats everywhere. Every email feels like bad news. Every silence feels like rejection. Not because the world changed—but because your frequency filters reality through a lens of danger.

When you're vibrating in curiosity, the same world becomes full of possibility. The same email might be an opportunity. The same silence, a gift of space.

The facts don't change. You change. And so your reality changes with you.

The Frequency Trap

But here's the hard part: you can't fake frequency.

You can't just think positive thoughts while your body is clenched in anxiety. You can't "manifest abundance" while vibrating in scarcity. Frequency isn't about words or affirmations—it's about your state of being.

This is why so many self-help techniques fail. They try to override frequency with willpower. But vibration runs deeper than thought. It's in your breath, your posture, your nervous system, your subconscious patterns.

To shift frequency You have to work at the level of being, not just thinking.

The Practice of Tuning

"ok, great" you say..."So how do you shift your vibration?"

Not through force. Not through denial. Through attunement.

1. Notice Your Current Frequency

Before you can change, you have to see where you are. Throughout the day, pause and ask:What frequency am I in right now?

Are you contracted or expansive? Rushed or spacious? Defensive or open? Heavy or light? Don't judge it. Just name it. Awareness is the first movement toward shift.

2. Shift Through the Body

Your body is the tuning mechanism. When you're stuck in a low frequency, your mind alone can't lift you out—but your body can.

  • Breathe deeper. Shallow breath keeps you in fight-or-flight (low vibration). Deep, slow breath signals safety (higher vibration).
  • Move. Dance. Stretch. Walk. Physical movement literally shakes stagnant energy loose.
  • Change your environment. Go outside. Let sunlight touch your skin. Nature vibrates at a frequency that recalibrates your nervous system.
The Reset Ritual

When you feel stuck in a low frequency, try this: Stand up. Shake your body vigorously for 30 seconds. Then place both hands on your heart and take three deep breaths. Feel the shift. You've just changed your frequency.

3. Choose Resonance Carefully

You are always exchanging frequency with your environment. The people you spend time with, the media you consume, the spaces you inhabit—all of it affects your vibration.

This doesn't mean you avoid "negative" people or hide from hard emotions. It means you become intentional about what you let into your field.

If you spend an hour scrolling rage-bait online, you will vibrate in anger. Not because you're weak, but because resonance is contagious. If you spend an hour in deep conversation with someone you love , you'll vibrate differently.

Choose your inputs like you're tuning an instrument. Because you are.

4. Work With Sound, Literally

The ancients knew that sound is one of the fastest ways to shift vibration. Chanting. Singing. Drumming. Music that moves you.

There's a reason mantras exist in every spiritual tradition. Repetitive sound entrains your nervous system. It literally vibrates your cells into a different state.

You don't need to be mystical about it. Hum. Sing in the shower. Play music that makes your chest open. Let sound recalibrate you.

The Law of Resonance

Here's the deeper pattern: Like frequencies attract.

When you vibrate in fear, you don't attract love—you attract more fear. When you vibrate in gratitude, you don't attract scarcity—you attract more to be grateful for.

This isn't magic. It's resonance.

You don't attract what you want. You attract what you are. Your frequency is your signal, and the universe responds in kind.

A radio tuned to 101.5 FM can't receive 98.3 FM. The signal doesn't exist in that frequency band. Same with you. When you're vibrating in resentment, you literally cannot perceive opportunities for joy. They might be there, but you're not tuned to receive them.

This is why two people can walk through the same day and have completely different experiences. Same events. Different frequencies. Different realities.

You don't attract what you want. You attract what you are. Your frequency is your signal, and the universe responds in kind.

The Dance Between States

But let's be honest: you can't stay in a high vibration all the time. And that's okay.

Life will pull you into grief, into anger, into fear. You will vibrate low sometimes. That's not failure. That's being human.

The practice isn't about never feeling hard things. It's about not getting stuck there.

Think of frequency as a river. You'll drift into eddies and whirlpools. The question is: can you find your way back to the flow? Can you feel the grief fully, and then let it move through you? Can you honor the anger, and then release it?

Frequency as Fluidity

Mastery of vibration isn't about staying perpetually high. It's about fluidity...the ability to move through frequencies without getting trapped. To feel what you feel, and then shift when it's time to shift.

The goal isn't to bypass the hard frequencies. It's to dance with them... to let them move through you without making them your permanent home.

Vibration and Will

And here's the deeper teaching: Your will is expressed through vibration.

When you hold a clear intention—a desire, a vision, a goal—and you vibrate in alignment with it, you set forces in motion. Not because the universe is granting wishes, but because you're broadcasting a frequency that draws resonant circumstances toward you.

This is the Hermetic link between Vibration and Cause and Effect. Your frequency is a cause. The life you live is its effect.

Want to create something new? Don't just think about it. Become the frequency of it. Feel what it would feel like to already have it. Move through your day as though it's already real. That's not delusion—that's entrainment. You're tuning yourself to the frequency of the outcome, and the universe rearranges around your signal.

What frequency are you broadcasting right now?

The Symphony of Existence

Ultimately, this principle reveals something beautiful:

You are not separate from the universe. You are one note in its infinite symphony.

Everything is vibrating together—stars, stones, cells, souls. And you, in this moment, are contributing your unique tone to the song.

When you understand this, you stop trying to control life and start learning to harmonize with it. You stop resisting low notes and start using them to create depth. You stop chasing high notes and start letting them arise naturally.

You become both the instrument and the musician.

And the song you play? That's your life.
